A refrain from a song, “Give Thanks with A Grateful Heart,” Indeed, rings in my heart when I think of the students placed into our care as teachers. As I observe those students who engage, who endeavour and ultimately achieve, the tune in my heart sings, and I do give thanks. I give thanks, as I know that these students are on the journey to fulfilling their God-given potential.

I could name nearly every student in my Home Room, and so many in the English class, but for this newsletter I will mention one student who I would like to encourage.

From the year 8 English class: Hamish Sinclair

From being a reluctant reader and a student who doubted his ability in this subject, he has soared onward and upward to achieve outstanding results.

Hamish fell in love with poetry and English while doing the oral assessment on Banjo Paterson. He decided to make the recital as authentic as possible and donned his outdoor clothes, sat on his horse with his loyal dog beside him and spoke the words of one of our most renowned poets. Hamish began absorbing the character of a bushman while he studied as you will notice in the photo.

To hear a student say, “I have already submitted my creative writing, but have written more as I love writing now,” causes that song in my heart to sing again.

Hamish is not the only one in Mrs Munro’s English class to say, “I never liked English, I never thought that I was any good at it, and now I love it.”

Mrs Munro sings out loud, but I, being considerably less gifted with musical ability, sing in my heart, “Give thanks with a grateful heart.”

Mrs Munro and I thank you Hamish for always being humble and ready to accept feedback and for never, never giving up. “You are true blue.”
