Back in Term 2, this year, we started ACC Connect. A Canvas Course with the purpose of creating opportunities for students to connect and helping students with their social wellbeing. When students feel connected with their peers, research suggests they are more engaged with their education. When students feel isolated and disconnected it is also likely to affect their mental health and wellbeing.
We want students to not just be well taught but also well known and well loved. Students can get to know each other through ACC Connect by being involved in our clubs (lunch club, chess club & Minecraft), chatting in our discussions (eg. sports chat, art & craft chat, performing arts chat), reading and writing a student blog (must be submitted for approval first), and through our activities & competitions (eg. Tuesday icebreakers, thankful Thursdays, bottle flipping competition).
Lunch Club
Lunch Club is on every school day at 1pm - 1:30pm. Students are able to join the Lunch Club Teleconference at that time and pick one of the Breakout Rooms available. Some students will then play a game online with each other while chatting and others might just chat. An ACC staff member will supervise and students are able to communicate with the teacher on duty if they have any questions or feel someone isn't being king. 2 popular games that students have been playing in lunch club recently are Smash Karts and Gartic Phone. Students are told which games are allowed to be played during lunch and which games aren't.
That all being said, my encouragement is to prioritize time away from devices and spend time outside and exercising. Exercise and spending time outside are also beneficial for our mental health and wellbeing.
Genesis 2:18a; And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone
Lord, I pray that you would help us to have good healthy relationships. Please help us to be good friends and I pray that our friends would be trustworthy and respectful.
