Student Wellbeing is an important part of our Distance Education program here at ACC. I love being a part of our wellbeing team and I am passionate about helping students feel welcomed, connected and have a sense of belonging to our school community.

Last year we introduced ACC Connect, an optional course for students to join that gave them opportunities to connect with other students in our school community. The feedback from families was really positive so this year we have added all students to the course (just like the Takumuna Notice Board course) so that it is easier for students to check out what is happening and connect as little or as much as they like.

ACC Connect aims to be a safe environment for students to chat with each other through discussions that they can comment in and club teleconferences that they can join. Staff supervision and student leader involvement play a key role in this. We also have activities, competitions and student blogs to help students get to know each other.

Q. When can students go on ACC Connect?

A. Students are only to go on ACC Connect when they are having a break from their school work. It is not meant to be a distraction. The idea is that it is like the interactions they may have on an on campus school at recess, lunch, before school and after school.

I’m really excited to see students make new friendships, develop strong healthy relationships and even heal from unhealthy relationships that they may have had in the past.
