When I finished Year 12 I did an internship with the Salvation Army. As part of the internship I was required to catch up with a mentor of my choice. I asked my youth pastor if he would be my mentor and we caught up for an hour nearly every week for that year. I found the conversation that I had with him so valuable and I would highly recommend getting a mentor to everyone. After I got married, my wife and I would catch up with an older married couple who we looked up to as marriage mentors and again I would encourage every married couple and even engaged couple to get marriage mentors.
We can have a mentor for the purpose of having a healthy marriage, or for the purpose of discipleship, or for the purpose of a career endeavour, or something else completely. Maybe you have a son or daughter who would benefit from having a mentor or maybe even you would. Someone that you meet with intentionally and regularly for some form of self improvement. Job 12:12 (ESV); wisdom is with the aged, and understanding in length of days.
Prayer; Lord, help us to not be so arrogant and filled with pride. Please help us to be humble and willing to learn from those that have gone before us.
