Depending on which hemisphere of the world you live in, hockey can be thought of quite differently. In the northern hemisphere, hockey is synonymous with ice hockey—a fast-paced, physical sport played on ice with teams aiming to score goals using a puck. In the southern hemisphere, countries like Australia and New Zealand, typically refer to the sport as field hockey—a game played on grass or artificial turf with a small, hard ball and sticks. In Distance Education, we have students who participate in both these unique sports and we are pleased to share their success.

Field Hockey

Over the holidays, Zara Harding showcased her talent at the recent 3-day Club Championships hockey carnival held at Perth Hockey Stadium. Competing fiercely against top teams, Zara led her squad to an impressive silver medal finish in Division 2.

The tournament saw Zara and her teammates deliver stellar performances throughout.

Their journey to the silver medal was marked by strategic gameplay, determination, and teamwork, which highlighted Zara's crucial role in defence as goalkeeper. Zara's achievement is a testament to her dedication and skill as a goalie, inspiring her peers and teammates. As she continues to excel on and off the field, the school community eagerly anticipates her future successes in hockey and beyond.

We also look forward to hearing the results of Easton Shearer's under 15 and under 18 Ice Hockey National Championships. Previously, the West Australian team won the minor final and received Bronze.

Easton is currently the 6th highest scorer in the Ice Hockey WA league and we wish Easton all the best and pray for a safe and successful competition.
