Welcome back for Term Four.  I always feel like the weeks between July and September disappear so quickly and then here we are in October, planning for the end of the year!

Term Three finished on a high note with our Athletics Carnival.  It was lovely to meet parents and students alike. We were so pleased to see students getting to know one another and displaying a tremendous amount of willingness to give everything a go.  There were handshakes and congratulations exchanged between participants and the team spirit was beautiful to witness.  Many students received acknowledgement for their individual efforts and team events all contributed toward the final result. Not everyone excels in these events or in this situation but we hope your child enjoyed participating and giving their best. We will keep trying to make this day a fun and special time for all.

This term all students from Years One to Six have been assigned their Protective Behaviours course with Mrs Sinclair.  Please note that completion of this is compulsory as it forms part of the mandated curriculum.

This term is a very short term and includes the ACER (Australian Council for Educational Research) PAT (Progressive Achievement Tests) testing of Reading and Mathematics in week six.  Students who enrolled this term and have completed the testing on-entry will not need to repeat the test.  Please encourage your students to do their best in these tests but to not worry excessively as teachers use them, along with all data collected, to track student progress over time and to form a picture of student challenges and strengths. Teachers will send more information closer to the time.

As it is a reporting term, teachers will not be able to give extensions for assessments that form part of a student’s final grade without a medical certificate. Your teachers are here to help, so please feel free to reach out to them for support and guidance. You will find that the Term Four Planners are a little different to accommodate the short term.  The Arts have been moved forward to ensure we have sufficient information to grade our students.  Please see teacher announcements for more information.

In this newsletter, we are highlighting some of the work completed by our Year Threes and Fours from Mrs Whiston’s classes.  We hope you enjoy their art exhibition, as well as the History and English assessment that you can listen to Paulux (Year Four) read with beautiful expression below.

Paulux wrote a narrative that focuses on the first contact between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and British settlers during the early years of European colonisation in Australia, beginning in 1788. It explores the way of life for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities prior to European arrival, the nature of early interactions with the settlers, and how British colonisation transformed life for these communities, as well as its effects on their lands and the environment.

We hope you have a wonderful term and enjoy all your learning opportunities.
