Well, here we are racing through term three and before we know it, we will be travelling to the Athletics Carnival at the end of term. The carnival is going to be a great time to socialise, challenge our bodies (staff too), apply learnt skills and encourage our teams. Please sign up if you would like to go. DE teachers love to be able to connect with their students and as many as possible will be attending. Before then though, there is a lot to accomplish - our schoolwork event is yet to be finished and it is more of a marathon than a sprint, with lots of effort and persistence still required.

Here are a few tips that might be helpful for Supervisors: DE students are required to make regular submissions of quizzes, assessments and weekly planners. Organising all this takes regular time and commitment - a bit like training for an athletics event, and primary students need a lot of help to organise their workload. Submitting assignments and assessments on time helps develop life skills around accountability, time management and punctuality. Submitting tasks by the due date builds a feeling of accomplishment and who doesn’t like to be able to ‘tick’ things off their list when they’re complete? Planning ahead to have tasks done on time also reduces stress and anxiety and allows students to extract the maximum learning benefits, including the opportunity to seek feedback or ask questions prior to submission.

If, as an observer, you are unsure how to see what work your student has due, you can log in to Canvas using your account credentials and then you will see on the right of the screen, the list of upcoming submissions and due dates. By clicking on the relevant course tile, you can look at the individual requirements for each subject (see the example below for Year 4 HPE). You can also view these in the calendar view by clicking on ‘view course calendar’ above this list. Teachers will usually aim to have each week’s work available earlier to assist those families who need some flexibility due to planned events. Sometimes sickness and other unexpected circumstances interfere with our best laid plans and some families choose to work a few days ahead to create a ‘buffer’.

If you would like to check what work your student has missed submitting, you are also able to do this. Open the tile for the course you would like to check, then on the left, choose ‘Marks’ from the menu. You will find a list of any submissions that are missing.

The Year 2 class has been exploring various forms of poetry and was tasked with creating and writing their own poems. They had to consider which aspects of poetry to incorporate, such as rhyme, alliteration, or onomatopoeia. Additionally, the students were required to contemplate how to illustrate their poems in order to convey mood and emotion through their use of colour and design. We hope you enjoy these amazing poems by Tylah, Benjamin and Huber.
