Hi! My name is Riley.

I have been attending ACC Distance Education for nearly two years now. When I joined ACC, I didn’t have many friends. I had just left my old school, with most of my friends, and I felt nervous that I wouldn’t fit in at all. Little did I know that there was a whole separate course at ACC for making some new friends! I quickly took the opportunity to explore ACC connect, and I felt amazed at how many ways I could make friends. I instantly signed up for many discussions, including gaming chat, and lego chat. I was still nervous about how I would see my new friends, and then I discovered the Lunch Teleconference, a way to socialize and connect with your friends. When I joined for the first time, I was welcomed by the students, as well as the supervisor, Mr Wiseman. I joined a room to chat, and I instantly felt like I belonged at this school. At the end of the year, I had made lots of friends, and I had made lots of memories that I will remember for the rest of my life. At the end of the year, my family and I went to the presentation ceremony, where we received our grades for the year, as well as receiving awards based on our achievements. Earlier in the year, I heard about the student leadership team. This was the first time that ACC DE had a leadership team, and I had never been in one, so I took my chance and handed in my application form. When Mr Wiseman announced the student leaders, I was surprised that my name was called out. When I looked to my right, my dad was practically jumping out of his seat. I am amazed at how my grades have improved since I started at ACC. When I was attending a different school, I found it hard to make new friends and my grades were just enough for me to pass. Now, my grades have exceptionally improved since I started ACC. My confidence has grown a lot and I am now actively working on the discussions for ACC Connect, as well as creating announcements and coming up with new ways to help people to connect.

As part of the student leadership, we get to make sure that ACC Connect is running well, as well as finding new and exciting ways for people to make friends. There are Icebreaker Tuesdays, which help people connect with each other. We also have the lunch teleconferences, where you can chat to your friends whilst playing games with each other, like Uno. There is also a wide range of discussion groups you can join, so you can find people with the same interests as you. We also host the Minecraft club, where you can play minecraft education edition with your friends. But, if that’s not your thing, there is also a chess club, where you can play chess against your friends. And so much more!
