For the first Year 10 Economics excursion, two students and I attended the ABE (Australian Business Economists) student forum hosted by Ernst and Young in Perth city in week 2 of Term 3. This forum is designed to encourage Year 10 students to consider a day in the life of an economist and with five guests on the panel, this was what we explored.

In the words of the two students in attendance, this is what they experienced…

"The ABE School Event was an eye opening opportunity that gave a glimpse into what a career as an Economist would be like. Everyone involved in the presentation was extremely talented & successful individuals with wisdom to pass on to the next generation. I would definitely recommend it."

"Attending the ABE Economics Day was an excellent opportunity to gain information from experts in the field of economics who are based in the Perth region. The presentation given by the panel was informative and interesting, giving insight into what it would be like working as an economist. Following the panel’s presentation we were given time to network and discuss various topics with members of the panel over a free lunch.

Attending this event has encouraged me to further explore my interests in economics. I would encourage anyone interested in the field of economics to attend next year’s ABE economics event."

So there you have it, a first Economics excursion in Perth for DE students was a great success, so any Year 9 students, look out for your opportunity next year in 2024.
