Visual Arts teacher, Elisa Pitavanik organised a guided tour of the Pulse Perspectives Exhibition in Perth at the Art Gallery of Western Australia on the 24th of September. This enriched the students’ appreciation of the visual arts created by last year's graduating Year 12s, which deepened their appreciation of the arts, the messages portrayed and high quality technical skills.

The Pulse Perspectives exhibition displays the top artworks of graduating WA Year 12 students, from both General and ATAR pathways. The judges of these artworks have no idea which schools are presented, nor do they know whether they are ATAR or General works. There were 30 artworks exhibited with a variety of different mediums used, from sculptures, textiles to paintings. During the excursion students selected their favourite works from the exhibition, explaining their reason for their choice to Mrs Pitavanik.

Mrs Pitavanik first went to this annual exhibition when she was in Year 10. This experience made such an impression on her that it created a determination to have her work selected to be displayed in this annual Year 12 exhibition. She worked hard and created a masterpiece: A portrait using oil paint on canvas, with the subject being Japanese culture. It was selected for the Pulse Perspectives exhibition in 2007.

Mrs Pitavanik’s vision is to run this excursion as a yearly event for Year 11 and 12 Visual Arts students. She hopes that it will inspire her students and that in the future our students' work will be selected for this prestigious exhibition.
